I'm trying to defrag the D portiion of my HD (C/D) and when I start the analyze function it tells me that chkdsk is scheduled to run and to run: chkdsk /f

However there is no 'f' partition on my HD

Options?

Options?

The /f is a switch for chkdsk that instructs chkdsk to fix any errors that
are found.

Go to Start/Run and type cmd and press OK. In the command prompt window,
type D: and press the ENTER key.

At D:\> type
chkdsk /f
and press the ENTER key.

Chkdsk will run with this option selected the next time you reboot the
system.

That's still not doing the trick.

It will run the chkdsk upon bootup but if I try the cmd then chkdsk it tells me that it cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. It then asks if I want to force a dismount or not.

OK, the easy way. :)

Double click My Computer. Right click the D: drive and select
Properties/Tools Tab. Click the the Check Now button in the Error Checking
section. Place a check mark in both options. Click Start.

You will get a message that the chkdsk program needs exclusive use of the
disk and would you like to schedule the chkdsk for the next boot. Click Yes.
Reboot the system.

Ok I did all that and it ran all 5 stages of the chkdsk, and then it ran again for 3 stages. It STILL won't let me defrag the D partition, keeps saying that chkdsk is scheduled to run and to do that first.

Chkdsk is NOT on my scheduled tasks. How do I get rid of this bloody thing..

Go to the following website.

Disable or Enable CheckDisk Upon Boot (Line 82)

Click the Disable link to download the reg file. Double click the downloaded
file and answer Yes to the merge prompt.
