Disk Defragmenter wont analyze

I am running two Sata drives in a Raid 1 array and I have just opened
up Disk Defragmenter to check my C and D drives.

When I highlight the C partition and click on the analyze button a box
pops-up with the following information:-

"Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the
volume : (C:). Please run Chkdsk /f.".

I assumed that when shutting down my system and rebooting that Chkdsk
would run automatically before going into Windows but it doesn't.

I have no idea how to proceed, can anyone please advise me how to get
Chkdsk to run in order that I can then use Disk Defragmenter.

Thanks.

Just a follow-up to my previous posting, after my iniitial panic state
I did a search on Google and found information how to initiate
chkdsk.

On rebooting chkdsk ran and was fine and then a 'scheduled' chkdsk ran
a second time, assume this one was causing the problem with Disk
Defragmenter and for some reason would not initially run.

On checking Disk Defragmenter I am able to use the analyze button once
again and have just completed defragmenting my C drive.

Good work. You might be interested in taking a look at the chkntfs command
for future reference.

Thanks for that tip. I have just had a look at the 'chkntfs'
information sheet on the Microsoft Help & Support site.

The information will be very useful.

I take it D: drive isnt part of youre RAID configuration,if it is youre not
running RAID...However for youre problem(s),read kb831426 For CHKDSK
Also,run defrag in cmd prompt,type:Defrag C:

Not being especially computer literate my terminology could be
misleading! :)

I referred to my C and D drives purely because if I go to 'My
Computer' it shows:-

Hard disk drives: Local disk 'C' Local disk 'D'

Disk Management shows:-

Disk 0 Primary partition (C:) 37.57GB NTFS Healthy (System)

Extended partition (D:) 195.31GB NTFS Healthy

I am running in a Raid 1 array as NVIDIA MediaShield shows:

"Mirroring"

SAMSUNG SP2504C Healthy 232.89GB SATA Primary Master
SAMSUNG SP2504C Healty 232.89GB SATA Secondary Master

Thanks for the info re kb831426 will have a read of that, although
after chkdsk ran at start-up I have had no further problems running
Disk Defragmenter in Windows.

Went to START/RUN then typed in CMD okayed that and in the CMD window
typed in the following:-

chkdsk c: /f

Was then prompted Y/N for chkdsk to run automatically on a re-boot,
selected Yes.

On re-boot chkdsk ran fine and this allowed me to use Disk
Defragmenter again.
