disk defrag not installed after upgrading w2k pro to winxp pro?

I just upgraded my old w2k pro installation to winxp pro (upgrade
version from Costco). There might be other issues, but I do not see
defrag installed. (the disk manager, tools tab says no defragmentation
utility is installed, or something similar). Is there a way to install
the defrag separately from the installation disk without going through
reinstalling winxp again?

Hi, Cyrill.

In My Computer, right-click on the drive letter, then click Properties |
Tools, and select Defragment Now...

Maybe that's what you've already done, but I'm not sure what you mean by
"the disk manager". Are you logged in as an administrator?

For the official word on defragmenting, see this part of the online version
of the Windows XP Pro Resource Kit:

Open Control Panel ===> Add or Remove Programs. Click Add/Remove
Windows Components. Look for Disk Defragmenter and make sure it is
checked. If it is not, check it and continue with the wizard. You will
need your Windows XP cd.
