disk cleanup hangs

I'm running win xp home sp1
disk cleanup hangs when I try to run it.
It just stops....(I've left it as long as half an hour), at the compressing
files stage.

Any suggestions?

Hi Lisa,

You could do the registry edit that is explained in the Workaround section
of this MSKB article, "Disk Cleanup Tool Stops Responding While Compressing
Old Files":

or, if you're not comfortable manually editing the registry, you could
d/load and run the fix (courtesy of Kelly Theriot) that is available here:
