Since upgrading to Windows XP i have now found that when
i close from Explorer, Messenger or outlook express etc i
do not get a window to ask if i want to disconnect from
telephone line this always came up in Win 95,98,ME
resulting in modem being connected for hours at a time
when not required. This is dial up not ADSL, can anybody
help.

Hi, Steve.

As it's csme time since you posted and no response has yet been made, I
thought I would offer a suggestion. I use broadband which is why I don't
think this works for me.

In IE go to Tools/Internet Options. Click on Connections/Settings/Advanced
and enable Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed.

You can also go to Control Panel/Network Connections and right click your
default connection. Select Properties/Options and in the scroll box opposite
"Idle time bfore hanging up", choose a time.

Let me know if this helps.

Good luck,

Ed

Control Panel - Internet Options - Connections. Highlight the
connection concerned, click Settings, click Advanced and check
'disconnect if may no longer be needed'
