Disaster recovery

Eva

Have tried to recover a win2000 server from backup tape.
I rebooted and got this error:

LSASS.EXE - SYSTEM ERROR
Secuirty accounts manager initialization failed because
of the following error:
The security ID structure is ivalid.
Error Status: 0xc0000078. Please Click OK to shutdown
this system and reboot into SafeMode
Check the event log for more detailwd information.

I don't know how to fix it, I go to safe mode and get the
same error. I click on OK and it reboots the system. It
does this as soon as it boots up... If I don't click on
it, it never goes past loading the network settings. Is
reinstalling win2k my only option? "something I DON'T
wanna do". =(

Appreciate all good ideas )

Hi Eva,

I've had a look around and found this on experts
exchange. Someone had a similar problem and this was the
recommended solution:

1. Restart the system in Directory Services Restore mode.

2. Use Explorer to search for the Ntds.dit file. If you
find it, move it to the correct location. The default is
the %SystemRoot%\Ntds folder.

3. If you can't find it, restore it to the correct
location. You would restore it by using ntdsutil at a
command prompt

I'm not sure if this will help you or not but it was all
i could find!

Hope it can help you in some way, sorry if it cannot )
