I have tried on two pcs (I only have vista pcs now) with two different user
accounts but with no success
the posts have never been downloaded or displayed or deleted, they just dont
exist as far as mail is concerned
I have downloaded thunderbird and the messages appear as they should

anyone help here

I dont like thunderbird, I find it difficult and unintuitive, but at least
it works

Do you have 'Use newsgroup message rating features' enabled at
tools>options>general tab?

If so disable it>Apply.

This feature is known to cause some of your own posts not to be available
via NNTP.

MS are actively seeking a solution to the problem.

I've got it working fine. He may need to uncheck the option under Tools |
Options | Send to download xxx headers at a time so he sees all the posts.
I have had no problems (except the usual) from signing on to the Communities
feature.

And is it enriching your experience, Steve?

I'm surprised any technically-savvy person would bother with
the Communities features. It is ridiculous to assume that your
average unsophisticated user can cast a reliable vote on the
technical adequacy of a response.

Yeah, I get the MVP icon next to my posts. Several MVPs and Steve Anderson
and Sabrina (MS) all worked hard together to get this working.
Unfortunately MS dropped the ball when it came to WinMail (and probably
WLM), so that it is quite buggy, but it was a wonderful example of how MVPs
and MS can work together to enhance MS's software.

More info on the communities feature can be found here:

Unfortunately there isn't a good corresponding article about the NNTP
interface with WinMail. They dropped WinMail development in the middle of
the Vista beta after the code reset and screwed it all up.

You need to visit the Office groups where the ratings feature is
consistently applied. Its extremely useful to the users. Just ask any
Office related MVP. Its too bad they screwed up the NNTP interface so much
with WinMail. It really had promises, but they messed up that end of
things. I was very much involved with other MVPs and MS in putting it
together, and I was extremely disappointed they messed it up in WinMail. I
still have open bugs about it from 3 or 4 years ago.

It's not just WinMail. I see the same type of complaints
from NNTP users in the Windows Live Mail newsgroup.

Yeah, they didn't fix any WinMail or OE bugs with WLM. They added new ones
though.

A few OE/WinMail bugs were fixed in WLM.
To name one: being able to indent Quoted-Printable text with the
'>' symbol. Neither OE nor WinMail can do that.

Nice they got their priorities straight.
