Disappearing Icons

What am I doing wrong when once in awhile my icons
disappear on sign on.....what can I do to get them back
so I can use my computer? This is happening to my mother
and I would like to be able to help her.

Perhaps they have been hidden? If you have an < on the task bar in the
notification area, click on it and see if the icons you want are there.
They will probably say 'hide when inactive' you can use the drop down menu
to make them Always show. I'm new to XP so sorry if this isn't what you
meant.
