Disappearing charts on Powerpoint only when a projector is connect

I have a problem with a presentation that looks and runs fine on my DELL
Latitude laptop. When a projector is connected certain tables and charts
disappear from both the laptop screen and the projected screen. They can be
clicked and opened but do not appear. Without the projector all is fine.
The screen resolution is set to 1024x768 which is fine for the projector.
This has happened with two different projectors. I'm running XP SP2 and
office 2000.
Everything used to work fine, the only thing I can think I changed was
installing XP SP2.
Can anyone suggest a fix?

Try (or have you tried?) sending the signal only to the projector to
troubleshoot.
