Disappearing attachments in Outlook 2007

Trevor

I am running a stand alone PC with Vista Ultimate SP1 and Office
Professional 2007 (both fully up to
date) and Outlook 2007 as my email client, but I am having major problems
with Outlook and how it handles some attachments.

What is happens is that when the mail is downloaded in Outlook, I can see
the
attachment gem clip with the message. However, when I double click the
message there is no attachment and the gem clip has disappeared. This does
not happen with all attachments -- only some.

I have run my virus checker and anti spyware software and they have found no
problems. I have done a repair in with office diagnostics but there also no
problems reported.

How do I fix this problem?

Thanks

Trevor

What kind of attachments? Many types are blocked by Outlook as possible

Hal thanks for coming back to me. I have looked at the links you have given
me but don't find a solution there. Sometimes its a jpg or bmp file, other
times its a powerpoint presentation, other times its a fax (pdf format) --
no real consistent pattern. What is strange is that this behaviour just
started suddenly. As the PC is set for auto updates from msoft I wonder if
it was some update that has screwed things up?

Thanks

Is your virus checker setup to scan your email? That's a No-No. Your virus
checker will keep your computer safe from email-borne malware with its
resident file system scanner, no need whatsoever for email scanning which,
as it turns out, usually causes a lot more problems than it cures.

No, the virus checker does not scan incoming mail. I have installed
Thunderbird as my new mail client and it works perfectly without the drama
of Outlook but I would like to go back to Outlook if I can resolve the
missing attachment issues.

Thanks
