Disapeering Mail in Ol03

I have outlook 2003 - and sometimes after reading them, the unread property
changes then, the mail seems to disapeer!!

It also occurs when I reply to some mail but not all!?!?
 
Are you using an "unread items" view, i.e. one that's filtered to show only
unread items? That would explain at least most of what you're describing.
