I just finished updating XP Professional with SP2 on my Panasonic laptop. I
want to install Norton Firewall. I have been trying to turn off the Windows
Firewall in the security center. Although I check the box for "Off" on the
Firewall screen, when I am back at the main Security Center screen, the
firewall is still shown as being ON. I even rebooted to see if the OFF
setting will take effect. And it did not.

Please help. Thanks in advance.

I have also Norton firewall and security center shows that firewall is on.
Everything is ok, if you click that downward arrow next to "ON" button and
security center tells that it's Norton's firwall that is on.

Thanks. But I have not installed the Norton Firewall yet. I did not want to
install that firewall without turning off the Windows Firewall. I am afraid
to install the NOrton firewall without turning windows firewall off because
of any conflict it might create. Did you install Norton without turning
Windows firewall off in Windows XP? Thanks again.

Thank you Taurarian. Very helpful. I thought I had read previously that the
two firewalls conflicted. Glad to know that the compliment each other, not
conflict. I will now go ahead and install the Norton Firewall.
