Disabling or removing Windows Mail

I would like to permanently disable or remove Windows Mail. I do not use
this program and Windows Mail has been intrusive while running other
applications.

Is there any way to prevent the service from starting up or completely
remove this feature from Windows?

Hi Croberts,

Sorry, Windows Mail is a part of Vista and cannot be uninstalled or
removed in any way. You can unassociate all of it's defaults. This
tutorial will show you how. Do step 6 instead of step 5, click on
"Choose defaults for this program" and uncheck all three defaults and
click Save.

Just make sure that the email program that you are using have these
defaults set to it. If the program is not listed, then see Method Two in
this tutorial for how to set each default individually. Just select the
default from above and click the "Change program" button, then navigate
to your email program's exe file responsible for that default.

The problem is that I do not use any other mail program. I use both Yahoo
and Hotmail as email accounts but do not use any locally installed software.
I am unable to change the default associations and Windows mail is not listed
in MSConfig or services.

I have had boxes pop up asking me to configure Windows Mail which can cause
interruptions with other active programs. The only thing that I could think
of doing was to modify options to disable sending me alerts or checking mail
at specified intervals. When I had Win XP, I completely removed Outlook
Express.

What you need to do is figure what type of action on your part
causes these unwanted boxes to pop up. Once we know that,
we can probably develop a pinpoint strategy to deal with it.
Using a blunt axe to chop off parts of Windows Mail is likely to be
counterproductive by increasing the incidence of error messages.
