Disabling Netbios over TCP/IP

Dmitry

Hi

We have a native mode domain with all Win2K DCs. We have
about 50 Windows NT Workstations on the LAN and 100
Win2k/XP pro machines. The network has been pretty slow,
so we`ve decided to disable Netbios over TCP/IP, and
remove WINS from the network. My question is , will
Windows NT workstations be able to logon to domain, I
don`t rememember if NT supports SRV records, and also
what are the other known effects of removing WINS , and
Netbios? None of our applications relies on NetBios, so
why not remove it and improve network performance.

Thanks

Win2K and WinXP support SMB file and print sharing via TCP/UDP port 445. WinNT4 does NOT.
