Can I disable Netbios over TCP/IP

Hi All,
I am implementing active directory in our organization. I
have one NT PDC of old domain which is also file server. I
don't want to upgrade that system to windows 2000. I can
add trust relationship to work between these two doamins
(NT doamin and win2k domain). But the problem is that I
have to enable Netbios over TCP/IP to create trust
relationship between NT pdc and win2k DC. If enable netbios
overv TCP/IP in win2k DC, I get error "duplicate name
exists in a network". I don't know how to address this
issue. Please any pf could address this issue?.

When you enable NetBT, and when you get the error run the following at a
command prompt and post the output here:

C:\>nbtstat -n

In addition to Pt's suggestion, does this machine have multiple NICs?

Keep in mind, if you are running Exchange 2000 or 2003, it requires NetBIOS.
If your users rely on Network Places, that requires NetBIOS as well. There
are some apps that require it too.

Hi,
No this machine is having only one NIC. If I can't disable
Netbios over TCP/IP, then how to get rid of that error?.

Well there's no duplicate there!! What does the event say?? (choose Words
in the data tab before copying and pasting here). Is that all of it?? Or
have you cut some out for privacy?? There seems to be too many <03>
there...

And if the conflict is with the NetBT <03> bit don't even worry about it:
this is because you've logged onto several machines with the same username
and each is trying to register the <03> (messenger service) bit in WINS. I
see it all the time...
