Disable Wireless Zero?

Though Wireless Zero is disabled as a service, I see wzcsvc and wzcsapi as
loaded modules in msinfo32. Trying to stop it with "net stop wzcsvc" returns
"the wireless zero configuration service is not started". The only item in my
network connection is internet protocol (tcp). Removing the \system32\wz*.*
modules in safe mode doesn't do it.
If I never use wireless, could someone please give a logical reason to why
is it active in Xp SP2?

I didn't get the whole idea, do you have wireless or you don't?.
If you have wireless Card installed on the Machine and Enabled then the WZC
will start by windows detecting the Wireless card to provide you with the
service , wishful thinking or being too much helpful!.
If you have a wireless Device/Card/NIC and you are using the Wireless card
manufacturer utility to mange your wireless connection then try the next:
Wireless LAN Support in Windows: Frequently Asked Questions
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/wifi/wififaq.mspx
Wi-Fi Registry Settings
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Aa916274.aspx
Try this:
Open a Run Command and type in:
services.msc click [OK].
On the services control Panel scroll down to Windows Zero Wireless
configuration and set the service to Disable instead of
manually or Automatic.
Click OK then close the services control panel window and Reboot and see if
the service will hold it's settings to Auto.
If not then try this Key in the Registry:
Open Run and type in:
regedit.exe click OK and on the Registry Editor Locate this key and change
the value in the Right Pane/window to (0):
[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC =

[ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

[-]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc =

[ON]Start REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

Be warren backup or write down the settings before and after editing, if
any thing gone wrong you can restore back.
HTH.
Regards,
nass
