disable "smart" selection?

When I select text on a web page IE may add additional characters ot the left
or right of what I highlighted instead of just what I want selected. Is there
somewhere to turn off this stupid "smart" selection feature?

Thanks much.

Don't we all wish.

After about 8 years of being irritated by this nonfeature the extra little
motion (go to the end of the extra crap it selects and then back to where
you wanted it to cut off) has become second nature. So at least you can look
forward to your medulla striking a compromise with the computer over time.

If you don't want to select words, you can always select any arbitrary
character string using the old, Click, Shift-Click selection method.
And in an editable field the Click, Shift-Cursor key method still works
the same as it always has since Windows 3.0
