Disable Move or Draga and drop commands

One of my bosses has Parkinsons Diseas which causes his hands to shake,
and this in turn results in him moving files and folders around
inadvertantly. So far we've not lost anything permanently, but it is
only a matter of time before that happens.
Can anyone help me out or suggest any way of disableing the move or drag and
drop commands??

I have tried to diasble the drag drop or copy in IE but that has done
nothing for explorer (used to work in 2000)

There is an option of adding a new registry entry to disable drag and drop i
think, but would prefer to use that as a las resort.

I can deny permission for the user to delete files in the root folder as
move is actually copy+paste+delete, but then he can't delete stuff if he
needs to.

Any other ideas?

Thanks, Sam

If you have already have a solution in the form of a registry tweak, (and
its from a reliable source), then unless you have a particular aversion to
the registry, I would try that.

If you set a System Restore point, prior to your tweaking , then you will be
able to restore the registry to its original form, if it doesn't have the
desired effect. You could also choose the right-click > export option within
the registry to make a copy of any keys, before you change anything.
Double-clicking on the exported .reg file would restore that particular key
+ subkeys. Storing any exported .reg files in "My Documents" would also make
them immune to the System Restore procedure.

I can't answer your question directly but have you considered substituting a
joystick for the mouse? It might be easier for him to manipulate.

Hi Sam,

the latest BETA version of XYplorer (shareware file manager) has an option
to "Disallow dragging from tree and list". You'll find that BETA version for
download (21 day free trial) in the "Beta Club".
