Direcway DW6000 Satellite Connection to FP Server

Anyone have troubles with FrontPage 2000 on Windows 2000 or WinXP from
self-hosted DW6000 (Direcway satellite) network? I think it must be the
protocol Frontpage uses to connect to a FP server because I cannot connect
to any FP server. Dial-up was fine, but with Direcway I cannot do it, at
all.

Any suggestions? I tried using proxy of 192.168.0.1:87 and then using no
proxy - no go. I can surf, stream, and download with or without a proxy
server enabled on Mac and PC.

Why port 87 on the proxy??
192.168.0.1:87 = port 87
192.168.0.1:80 = port 80
which is what FP needs to publish via http.

Port 87 is a self-hosted internal network setting. A proxy can also not be
used. So, you can surf with or without a proxy server IP set. I tried
FrontPage 2000 with and without proxy and on two machines/systems. Both have
FP2000 - maybe 2003 will work??

With Direcway, I get the same or similar error messages as posted above in
thread. "The server sent a response which FrontPage could not parse. If you
are trying to connect to a FrontPage server, check with the server's
administrator to make sure the FrontPage server extensions are installed
properly." That's the error I receiver on both systems.

Both systems can use Internet Explorer flawlessly to browse and download
from internet via Direcway.

Does your satellite service use a telephone line for
uploads? If so the server probably cannot be seen by the
internet as it probably has a private IP provided by the
satellite service

Ok,
Contrary to popular belief, Internet Explorer
does not use port 80 in any way shape or form
on a client / local machine, so the fact that you can
view webs in IE is of no significance.

I went to the directway site looking for info / ideas
and couldn't find much except that your satellite connection
is two way, which rules out a dial up vpn for "upload" info.

The next thing I would look for is a firewall blocking port 80
or some type of internet connection filter blocking port 80.
And I would also contact directway and see if they have port 80
"outbound" blocked to prevent people from running "servers" on
their "client" aka "local" aka "home" machines.

Are any of us using the Professional dw6000 with the static IP address?
We must find out if the hand shake works with the pro setup before we invest in the change.

To follow up on this some more...

I got FrontPage 2002, upgrade from 2000. I still cannot access "server 1"
with 2000 or 2002. "Server 2" I can access using both 2000 and 2002.

When using 2000 or 2002 on satellite connection, it doesn't connect to
"server 1." When I enable my dial-up connection to my previous ISP (so I
have two network connections active in task bar), I can connect to "server
1." Funny thing is, it shows activity on the satellite connection and barely
any on the dial-up modem and I get the speeds of satellite.

"Server 1" stats:
FP Extensions: 4.0.2.7802
Server: Microsoft IIS/5.0

"Server 2" stats:
FP Extensions: 5.0.2.2623
Server: Apache/1.3.29 (Unix)

Any further thoughts? This is really bugging me as I am not a Microsoft IT
person, mainly use Macs!!

Thank you much!

Hi, You can look in the entry by "Rowe" under server sent a response. This is a direcway problem. We all must call direcway and get them to fix the problem. Front page works with dial up. It also works with DW4000. Some thing has changed in the 6000 to cause the problem. I will call again tomorrow.

I have been in contact with Direcway about their new DW6000 system. The standard account will not work with FrontPage (any version). They will not refund your money for the DW6000. They say that it is only for internet browsing and if you wish to use FrontPage you need to pay the extra for their Pro account. They more or less told me that they have no plains for fixing it. They were very rude and unhelpful about it. If you have not called them I would and if you have not upgraded from the DW4000 I would NOT!

I was experiencing the same problem. Everything worked fine with th
old DW4000 system, but when I upgraded to the DW6000 all kinds o
problems popped up. I upgraded to FrontPage 2002, and bought th
Direcway Professional Version as suggested by the Direcway Techs, bu
that did not help either. I am out in the country, and Direcway is m
only high speed choice, so if anyone finds a solution please let m
know. Right now I have to use a phone line that is only 24kpm, o
drive 20 minutes to another office location in order to upload change
to our websites. I also cannot use Metroscan Online and a credi
checking service over the satellite anymore
