2000/2002 connection problem

I have windows 98se at home. I have windows xp at work. I got the 2003
upgrade for work. Since 2003 will only function on windows 2000 and windows
xp I could not upgrade on the 98se at home.

I was unable to get 2000 frontpage to connect to the web site on my home
computer. I assumed the problem was the program. I was able to acquire 2002
complete Frontpage (could not find an upgrade for 2000). I now have the same
problem with the 2002 that I had with the 2000...when I connect to the web
site and click on "edit with Frontpage" I get a "network connection box". It
asks for user id, password and domain name. I have double checked with the
server on the user id and the password. I am entering the correct info. It
just won't accept the info.

My work 2003 Frontpage connects through a satellite service (Direcway),
while I have a dial up line at home. I had to adjust for a proxy server to
use for Direcway. The user id and password work on the pc at work, using
2003.

Do I need to make make some type of setting adjustment? Any ideas what the
problem is?

Connecting to the server is all a function of the network connection and FP SE on the host (not the local client software, FP
version, installed)
Try browsing to you site in IE and using File Edit w/ FP

Stefan,

I read the rest of the messages and discovered your answer. I had already
tried to connect by using IE, and "editing with FP" button. In case the
button wasn't working I tried the file, edit with FP, as well. No luck. The
server says his version of FP, as well as mine at work (2003) functions as
it should. Is there some reason that the server's settings are not
recognizing the 2002 version? Could there be a setting problem on my end?

When I try to open the site with FP (useing 2002FP) I get a request for user
ID, Password and Domain name. At the top of the box is the label "Network
Connecton". It appears that the program thinks I am on a network. I am not.
The new software I just received says the program is for windows 98 an NT.
When I use the 2003FP ( on the pc at work, I have XP) I get a screen asking
only for user id and password. (when I contacted the server he got his 2002
FP program to work. He doesn't get the "Network Connection" box.).

What do I do to get the program to recognize that I am not on a network?

When you connect across the internet to a remote server, you are on a
network. The login request is generate by the server sending a request to
your browser or in this case FP, for you to login. The actual name of the
login dialog, really don't matter.

Dear Thomas,

The box that comes up has the microsoft tag and key icon and is labeled
"Enter Network Password". It has three items to enter (user id, password,
and domain) As I understand it this is the logon box that usually comes up
when you have individual computers networked together (ie several company
computers networked within an office). The box that comes up with the FP2003
is intirely different. It only has two items to fill in. The FP2002 version
at the server's location also only has "two" items to fill in. The program
seems to be acting like I have windows NT. I don't. Either something is not
working right or I don't have the settings set right. I checked the Network
settings and it says it has the following Network Componets installed:
Microsoft family Logon, Dial up adapter and TCP/IP. Primary Network logon is
Microsoft family Logon. One thing I notice in the properties of the TCP/IP
the DNS configuration is "disabled". Could this be a problem?

Any help of direction would be extremely appreciated.

Ok, then the issue is most likely the Family Login causing the specific
dialog to appear. Try disabling that and use the normal login or no login
under Windows 98.

No luck, I deleted the family login, the systems rebooted and I still get
the same box which will not accept the user id or password.

Should I enable the DNS or reload the program?

Since I don't have Windows 98 to check this on, I suggest that you post to
the appropriate Windows newsgroup for help with your network settings.
