DirectX Problem

I am trying to install a game on my son's computer. The game is installed
and then it says it needs to install DirectX to play the game. It tries to
do it and I get this message:
The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to
verify its compatibility with WindowsXP. This software will not be
installed. Contact your system administrator.

I am not sure what to do. Because it is my son's computer, we do not have
it hooked up to the internet, so I cannot download anything directly onto it.

Thanks a lot for any advice you might have.

Do you know what version of Direct X is in stalled on the computer?
If you don't go to Start/Run/type in dxdiag.
Up will come a window entitled DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
The first page should show 'System'
Look down the bottom and you should read which version you have - i.e. the
latest I believe is 9.0c.
