DirectX and Update problems

I recently had to reformat my harddrive...Then I went to
update Windows. I am running 2000 PRO. I also play
Everquest. I had nothing but problems with the updates
crashing my Everquest game. So I uploaded only DirectX 9
and now I am having problems again. I have an AMD XP 2200
with 1K ram and a Gforce4 Realtek 4400 graphics card. I
never had any problems before.

Original reason to reformat harddrive was that upgrading
from Windows upgrade sight crashed my computer. I never
had these problems before. Have upgraded on a regular
basis with no problems in past.

Now I would like to remove DirectX 9 from system and
install that version before this. How do I remove the old
DirectX and where can I get the past version ??

From what I understand, the GeForce 4's don't support
DX9.0... only the FX cards do

to get rid of direct x and revert to 8.0a try using
DirectX Buster located here
http://www.dxbuster.de/index_e.html

The conflict between dx drivers and your video card could
be what crashes eq.

Nvidia Detonator Drivers 44.24 for Windows 2000/XP are out. Try your luck
with them: http://www.3dchipset.com/index.php#1661.
NOTE: there is no official DirectX 9 Uninstaller. If you really must
uninstall DX9 then go here and get this freware program: DirectX 9.0
Uninstaller (http://www.softnews.ro/public/cat/14/4/14-4-48.shtml). BEWARE:
its *not* official so no liability whatoever.
