Some programs & DirectX files

S

Sigma

I have some programs on my Vista computer that won't run, saying there is a
missing file "dx8vb.dll". Sometimes there is a 9 instead of an 8, sometimes
the filename is different, but they all begin with dx and are dll files.
Reinstalling did not fix the problem. I have tried installing DirectX
updates, the DirectX SDK and DirectX run-time files, but I still get errors.

Also, when I try to change the log-in screen screensaver, the screensaver
won't run at all, or (for Vista screensavers), I get warnings that
D-something 9.1 can't be found (I'll have to check this to be sure).

Can anyone help or does anyone have suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi, Sigma.

As they say, Google is your friend.

When I search for "dx8vb.dll" in either Google or Microsoft's Live Search, I
get plenty of hits. Since I haven't had the problem, I didn't try to check
them out. If they don't answer your questions, please post back.
