DirectX 9.0b Installation Problem

Jonathan

I'm not quite sure if this should go here, but theres
seems to be no specific forum for DirectX support. When i
try to install DirectX 9.0b (from microsoft.com) it
starts off as it shiuld and extracts the files. Then when
it comes to Copying the files, the bar does not start and
after about 5 seconds or so i get an error saying:

"The software you are installing has not passed Windows
Logo testing to verify its compatability with Windows XP.
(Tell me why this testing is important)

The software will not be installed. Contact your system
administrator."

What can i do? I AM the administrator if that helps,
(there is only one user account since only I use the
computer) but how can it not have passed the Windows logo
testing if it is being downloaded from microsoft.com? Can
someone help? Thanx.

Hi Jonathan,

Here are a few solutions for the DirectX 9 "Logo Testing" error,
as well as other errors when trying to install patches or updates:

1. Click Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services
Scroll down to "Cryptographic Services", double click it and
change Startup type to: Automatic and click the "Start" button.

2. Try the resolutions in this recently released MS article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=822798

3. Save and then Open the "DX9 Logo Error" patch on Line 189
for WinXP at: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

4. Repairing Windows is our final option. Boot from your Windows
CD (you may have to press F12 while starting up, or change the
bootup order in your BIOS) and then follow the instructions at:
http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm Good luck! :)

Sort of related. I found that after installing 9.0b and
the patch MSMSGS.exe hangs on shutdown. Uninstall 9.0b and
all is good.
