I tried using vista's disk defrag tool, but unlike the previous version on
XP, this app does not allow the user to choose which disk is to be defragged,
it just opens up and defaults to your c drive, the user gets no option. am i
doing soemthing wrong or does anyone know how to get it to allow te user to
choose from selected disks, including attached usb connected "storage disks"
any help would be appreciated

Prior to SP1, the built in defragmenter in Vista, would defrag all
partitions by default, and you could not select a single one to defrag,
unless you run it from a command prompt as administrator, and typing defrag
c: , or whatever letter partition you wanted to defrag.

SP1 changes this, and allows you to select whatever partition you want to
defrag from the Vista GUI.

You want to use Vista's defragmenter from the command line. The executable
is defrag.exe. You need to run the file cmd from and administrator cmd promt
to allow defrag to run in command prompt mode.
