direct cd printing on ip4000?

Okay this works a treat on the actual printer with its own software. I
kind of like using accoustica label maker for its ability to read
contents of cds and stuff though so I thought I'd to a test print with
that and although it has settings for printing on the 4000 direct to
disc when I press print it does the "Can't print as front cover is
open" thing, ignoring the cd tray. anyone know how to get it working
or does this printing have to done with Canon's software?

Odd, usually the end user need to regedit the value listed in their
registry to reflect support of cd printing to get the error message you
describe.

Anyhow both the registry and the printer's eeprom must reflect
CD-printing support, and the open cover error message sugests that the
printer is stuck on "No-CD support"

All the details are listed there... see section on [ 2. Set CD-R
mode to enable. ]

Oops, i should mention that as I'm in the UK this setup is standard to
the printer, I didn't have to remove any panels or anything and using
canon's own software it does print directly to the cd/dvd in the
holder/tray

That would explain why your able to get that message. The only way to
get it is if your printer's drivers were installed while set for a
region that supports cd printing, or if you tweeked with the registry.
Silly me my bad. Regardless it's the printer complaining, "But my door
is open" not your software.

The software you are using "accoustica label maker" I've only used
once... so I can't remember if it's one of those that doesn't set the
page size and such to cd tray so you might have to do it manualy, at
least the first time around. It's done in three places from print
properties
[Main] - first screen
Media type = Printable disc (Reccomended/Others whatever)
{should auto switch the next field}
Paper Source = Disc Tray

[Page Setup] - second screen
Page size = CD-R tray (A B or C depending on model) {not auto switched
for some odd reason}

I'll have to try this the next time I print but I suspect when your
printing the disc your set for A4 size and not CD-R tray size.

It works! Thanks so much. I thought at first I couldn't do it but it
was more me being slightly confused by your instructions (I was
looking in the wrong place!) but once I found the right stuff it did
exactly as you said.
