Hi
My Canon iP4000 has stopped printing black text on CD's, but will
print black text on paper
I changed both black carts, did nozzle and deep cleaning, but to no
avail. The black print on the CDs is a light blue
Anyone know what's happening. Is my print head faulty ?

Check your small black, do a nozzle check checking the 6bk line.

That will come as a terrible disappointment (probably shock) to
Measekite, as ALL printer problems - he assumes - are related to the use
of aftermarket inks.

As for your problem, I haven't seen this with my iP4000, and I strictly
use aftermarket inks. Naturally, the brand of ink you use isn't the
issue, so I won't make any such childish suggestion that it's because of
your continued use of OEM inks :). We could have something deeper
here, and I trust this "defect" isn't across the board. As I've only
printed about 10 CDs, only time will tell. . .

Nozzle check shows its not printing on this one cart. New carts, Nozzle
Clean/deep clean. doesn't solve it.

Is this cart only used for cd's?

Im not that familiar with inkjet printers, the only thing i can think of is
i need get the print head out somehow and try and flush it?

There is the possibility that you may have inadvertently put the wrong
carts in an incorrect slot. If not reinstall the driver and choose a
different profile. I assume you did not convert a US model to print
CDs. Also try a different brand of CD

Canon has been known (good will since you use Canon ink) to replace the
printhead even if out of warranty. Try giving them a call.

My guess is that your software is sending an incorrect setting to the printer
for some reason, you might try reinstalling your printer software and/or your
graphics prog?
I would try printing on the CD tray setting but specifying A4 as the paper
source to narrow down the problem (disregarding the warnings- see settings
below) to see if the problem still persists when printing to the CD tray, you
have to know where the printing will come on the page to hit the CD tray
properly and use a graphics or painting program such as CorelDraw to get it
right for position. If you specify A4 paper I can tell you that the centre of a
CD comes exactly as follows on the sheet:
from the top edge of page 146.178 mm
from left edge of page 65.647 mm
Cut out a paper CD and use that in the tray to experiment with if you havnt got
any coasters to use up.
Note:If printing in fineprint use the 'bypass' setting.
Printer OPTIONS - Canon (Ip4000)
Set Tab [MAIN] ---Printable Disk(recommended)
Set Tab [PAGE SETUP]--- A4
NOTE: this generates a warning for which choose 'Ignore'. You can then print to
the CD tray but using the paper settings as long as you have the position on the
page correct!!
Let us know how you get on!

The print head is the cradle holding the ink tanks. To remove it, first
remove the ink tanks, then lift the head locking lever to the right of
the print head, and you should be able to lift out the head. Take care
not to touch the nozzles or electrical contacts to avoid contaminating
them.

Don't touch or wet the electrical contacts on the back of the printhead. Go
to the Nifty-stuff forum, sign in, click the FAQ link on top of the page,
and read through the first subject about what to do when your printer isn't
printing properly. Lots of suggestions on cleaning the print head.

my scribble :

I would nort remove the printhead without precautions, drying out (even partial)
and air pockets is a real problem and could easily leave you with a wreck,
original printheads are delivered wetted with a special fluid, and hermetically
sealed.

It would be more accurate to say that the big black is used on plain
paper mode, and the other modes use the dye black. There are
exceptions, for example duplex uses both tanks, but for the most part
everything uses dye black and the rest use pigment black. Black from
my understanding kicks in when a given color is 80% black, your average
photo might need a dash of black, where CDs tend to have tracks in
black.

Are you either a moron or a shill for the printer manufacturing association?

If the second, could you sell me some Monster cables and a Sony laptop
battery to go with my brand new set of $100 worth of Canon ink carts?
