Direct Cable Connection problem

I

ilyaz

I have WIN XP Home SP2 installed on two desktop PCs. I'd like to connect
both machines with a Null Serial Cable. I have a cable and a Null Adapter
which connect both machines at their serial ports. I set this cable as modem
on COM1. The <real> modem is on COM3. I run Network Connections Wizard on my
<NEW> computer and have Direct Connection established. Then I run the same
wizard on the <OLD> computer and had the Direct Connection established on it
too. However, when I try to access one comp from another, I'm getting an
error message <Error Connecting to Direct Connection. Opening port... Error
633: The modem (or other connecting device) is already in use or is not
configured properly.>
What is wrong? How to get Direct Cable Connection to work? My <NEW> computer
is wireless connected to Interned. I want my <OLD> computer connected to the
<new> one by serial cable only.
Thanks for any help you may offer.

Hey, Ilya you wild and crazy guy! You just love to do stuff the hard
way, don't you? ;-) I can't help you directly with this because I
always just use ethernet or a usb thumbdrive, but here are some great
links to help:

Malke,
I was sitting and waiting for you to reply! Thanks. By now, you know that
I'm more stubborn than a donkey... Anyway, I appreciate your suggestions.
One URL (parallel) I visited before, but I need serial. So, I'll look at
others.
Regards,
Ilya

Malke,
I surrender unconditionally... Just cannot take it anymore and going to get
an external floppy drive for my new machine... But, before I do so, I have
to clean, or remove, or disable My Network Places. While I was trying to
build a DCC, somehow I got the whole bunch of folders and subfolders in MNP:
Entire Network (subfols MS Terminal Services, MS Windows Network, Web Client
Network), Backup on New (access denied!), NetHood on New, SharedDocs on New
(New is the name of this machine). I tried to find a way to eliminate the
Network, but so far was unable to. May you help me with this one?
As always, thankful for your help,
Ilya

Can't you just right-click on the items and delete them? Other than
that, I really don't know how to put a domain controller back to
defaults. Maybe you should ask this on one of the server newsgroups.
Here's one:

microsoft.public.windows.server.general

Good luck,

Malke
