Direct Cable Connection between computers

I'm trying to connect my laptop with WIN98 OS and my
desktop with XP Home using a CAT 5 E cable. On the
knowledge base it doesn't tell me if I should use a
straight through or crossover cable.
Can someone please adsvise me which to use. Thank you, Ben
 
Crossover from PC-PC. Straight cable from PC-Router, switch, hub...
