Difficulty printing to network printer

Firstly, I posted to this NG because I believe this is a network issue, not a
printing issue.

This is my setup. It is a single computer running XP Home SP2. There are 2
users: myself (administrator) and my wife (limited user). There are 2
printers connected to the computer. One is a color printer connected via USB
cable and it prints fine for both users. The other is an HP LaserJet 3330
all-in-one connected via network cable to a Linksys Router. The router
provides an internet connection and is also connected to an external print
server (HP en3700) that connects to the HP LaserJet. The internet connection
woks fine for both users.

I am able to print to the HP LaserJet without a problem. When my wife is
logged on, she can select the LaserJet without any problem, it is available
in all applications but there is no output to the printer. The HP test page
will not print, it will not print through Notepad nor will it print when
redirected through the command prompt. All attempts to send any file to the
printer timeout and the printer icon in the system tray displays the message
"The document failed to print..."

Here are specifics of the system. The LaserJet is setup as a shared
printer. File and printer sharing is enabled through the network connection.
File and printer sharing is enabled through the Windows Firewall although
the Windows Firewall is off (I am using Norton Personal Firewall). I have
also run the following command at the command prompt (rundll32 printui.dll
PrintUIEntry /ga /n HPLaserJet) and received the message in a box titled
"Printer User Interface": "Unable to add the per machine connection.
Operation could not be completed." [HPLaserJet is the name of the shared
printer].

I have looked at numerous knowledge base articles and I cannot find a
remedy. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Richard,

I appreciate your advice. My situation is a single computer with 2 users.
The printer in question is setup as a network printer. It is setup
correctly. That isn't the problem. The problem is that one user can print
to it, the other can't. I logged on as my wife and the only option she has
(as a limited user) to add a printer is to connect to a network printer. The
computer finds the network printer without a problem and seems to connect her
to it. The computer accepts commands to print to it (such as from MS Word or
the internet) but the documents remain in the queue and timeout there. They
are just not printed.

I have looked into the settings of the Windows firewall, the Norton
firewall, the printer, the print server, the NIC and I cannot find the reason
why.

Thank you for your response.
