Differences in Word between Office 2007 Editions

I want to buy Office 2007, but I don't want to pay for more than I need. I
only require Word, Excel and Powerpoint, so I could theoretically buy the
Home and Student edition.

However!!!!!!

With Office 2003, I bought the Small Business Edition, but the version of
Word in that was not the "full" version. I wanted to edit XML files and I
discovered the following text via the help function:

"XML features, except for saving documents as XML with the Word XML schema,
are available only in Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 or the
standalone product of Word 2003."

These "deleted" features are not advertised at the point of sale. So my
question is what is the cheapest Office Edition that includes a full version
of Word 2007?

Based from my research there has been no mention of users not being able to
use the xml features from different Word files.

I would advise to get the standard edition in case you are used to Outlook.
If not, the cheapest is the student edition. You may also wait for the next
Office that is coming this year. Check out the 2010 Beta Version, it is for
free!

Hi Vicente,

I'm sorry you missed the point of my question. I want to make sure that I
get the fully functioning version of Word with the Office Suite that I buy.
My experience with 2003 was that unless you buy the Office Professional
edition or the standalone Word product there are things missing. I discovered
soon after purchase about the XML editing issue, maybe there were other
missing features that I didn't happen to notice.

The licence for the Student edition would not cover my usage as a
professional writer. I would be happy with what is packaged in the Small
Business Edition, provided that Word does not come as a cut-down version
again.

The professional editions of Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 Office release
provide extensive XML support.

Office Professional 2007 and Microsoft Office 2003 provide the same sets of
XML tools. In Office Professional 2007, you must first enable XML support,
and then you start the tools from different locations. However, after you
start the tools, they work the same in Microsoft Office 2003 and Office
Professional 2007.

The versions of Word in the other editions of Office 2007 do not have XML
editing capability.
