Problem opening Word documents in Outlook 2007.

I have one user that when she opens a Word doc - Office 97-2003 format using
Word 2007 sp1 and Outlook 2007 sp1 she gets a message "The Office Open XML
File - filename cannot be opened because there are problems with the
contents".

We try saving the document to hard drive and opening to the desktop and
still get the same error. I tried the Open and Repair feature but that
doesn't work. I scanned the computer for spyware using Malwarebytes and
removed quite a bit of spyware but I still can't open this document. Is
there a problem with XML on the pc? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Is this happening with only one file or all files?

What is the file extension?

Can you mail it to me so that I can check? (e-mail address removed)

It seems to be just one file and its .doc (97-2003) format so its in
comaptibility mode. Another thing I did was save the file to the desktop has
..docx extension and still go the same error.

The file might be corrupt... if it is not opening with .doc extension then
most likely there is something wrong with the file... you may ask the sender
to send it again

Apparently now he's telling me its also happening Excel spreadsheets and .pdfs.

We had a server crash and built a new server about 2-3 weeks ago because
staff save to their H: drives which is when the trouble started. I scanned
his computer with Malwarebytes and removed quite a bit of spyware on it and
the machine runs very fast. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 at
least 3-4 different times and have made new program file directories under
c:\Program Files\ (current directory is c:\Program Files\Office 2007) during
installation. We have upgraded our antivirus server & workstations to
Symantec Endpoint Protection version 11.

We have users save their .pst files to their H:\Outlook\ folder and I
created a new outlook.pst to see if that was the issue. Users connect to
an Exchange 2003 server using Outlook 2007. I don't really want to rebuild
the pc because it is running fast and logging in.
