Is there a difference beteen an "upgrade version of
Windows XP and a "full" version?
Can I use the "Upgrade version to do a "Clean install if I
think reminants of WIN98 are causing grief?
If I do a clean install will of Windows XP will I have to
at any point during the install process insert my original
OEM Win 98 disk? (Dell)?

The difference between the upgrade and full retail is that the upgrade
requires that you show it a qualifying upgrade product during setup, in
your case meaning you will need to insert your original Win 98 disk during
setup. Both can do a clean install and both can be installed as an
upgrade.

The Dell OEM disk might not work as a qualifying disk. Some preinstalled OEM
disks won't.

I did a clean install with a Dell Win ME CD and it worked just fine.
