Difference between group mailbox and public folder

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a group mailbox and a
public folder? I have to create one or the other, and I don't know which
would work best in this circumstance:

Must have >6 people able to view contents
3 people will need to "send as" the mailbox/folder
Anyone should be able to reply to messages sent from the mailbox/folder

I appreciate any help you can provide.

A public folder is simply a ...well, it's a folder, of the type you wish.
They can be mail-enabled or not. You can use Send As permissions on it on
the server, and control folder access granularly.

A shared mailbox is a full mailbox to which you can grant multiple users
full mailbox access and send as rights on the server. I suspect this is the
right solution for your needs. Note that sent items will not be stored
therein (presuming they open it as a secondary mailbox in Outlook) and you
may wish to look at some of the tools at www.ivasoft.biz.
