Dialup Networking files

I have lost access to AOL on my HP laptop with XP Pro.
AOL tells me that I need to uninstall and reinstall my
dialup network files. How do I do that?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but last I knew AOhell used it's own dial
up adapters. So you'd have to unistall/reinstall aol.

They still do. However, if the OP can still open AOL, just run the setup from
within again and make a new dialup connection or (LAN/tcp/ip if using dsl/cable)
and AOL should make a new connectiod. You can't change it or run it directly
from network connections. A 'feature' from AOL that I don't like as I like to
make my own connections manually.

Thanks for the info. (btw - that lan messaging app you pointed me too seems
to work nice, we might start using it here).

Very interesting discussion but I still don't know how to
install my dialup network files. An uninstall &
reinstall of AOL does nor do it

You're welcome, purplehaz. :) I like it a lot too.

You don't have to reinstall AOL to get it going. If you have another ISP to test
with, open network connections from the control panel. If there are no
connectoids listed there other than your LAN connection, create a dialup
connection to your fallback ISP and enter your account name, user name, and
password and make sure only tcp/ip is bound to that connection. Double click it
to start it dialing and if it works, then you have all the necessary winsock
files needed to make a dialup connection. You cannot create an AOL connection
using this method, I've tried and failed, since AOL is really a stickler for
creating their own connectoids. Did you set up the connection from within AOL?
Start AOL and at the login screen there is a setup button that enables you to
set the connection you need to use. AOL will take it from there and walk you
thru putting a connectiod in your network connections page in the control panel.
If that doesn't do it, a call to AOL would be in order.
