Dialog Box in Word 2003 ???

When I open a Word document a message appears on the screen that reads, "The
command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and then
close open dialog boxes to continue." I then click OK and the document opens,
without any dialog boxes appearing. I have not had to do this in the past
when I opened a Word document. I also notice that in the bottom left corner
of the document window, the words "running virus scan" are visible until the
document is open. When I open only the program Word from the desktop icon,
the aforementioned message box does not appear, although "running virus scan"
is also visible in the bottom left corner until the program is fully opened.
Any suggestions on why this happens and how to prevent it? Thanks, Jimmy.
