dial up window

I don't know how or why this happened but when i click on
my dial up icon and the window appears with my id and
password, the area where it says to click here to save
name and password, is greyed out. I have to type this in
every time and is a pain to do so. how can I get my normal
window back, where it is always saved.

control panel \ network connections
right-click your isp name
properties
Under security, see if you have the typical options selected.

If no joy and if this happened recently, you might want to use system
restore. Start button, programs, accessories, system tools. Choose a
recent date before the problem began. (The restore can be undone if it
doesn't solve the situation.)

Follow the process explained here:

Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc
Scroll down to Protected Storage and verify that the service is started.

tried that and restore won't let me restore either.
security settings are correct.
