I recent reinstalled Windows XP Pro and was being driven crazy by pop up
windows wanting to connect to the internet. I foolishly ticked a box alowing
automatic connection. Now it's dialling automatically and I can't find where
to correct that mistake becasue the window no longer pops up.

Can someone assist with:
1. Where do I turn off auto dial of this type and
2. Where do I stop the pop up windows asking to connect?

Thank you.

right click My network Places click properties under advanced click dial up
preferences, you will find some options there. You can also tell it to
never dial a connection in IE under Tools options connection.
Good Luck

Hi,

A program or spyware might initializing the dial-up connection.

SpyBot S&D searches your harddisk for Spyware and Adware
http://security.kolla.de/

and

Adaware (similar)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
* Perform a Webupdate to have the latest definitions installed *

To disable automatic dial completely (means no program can automatically
dial, however you can do manually.)

1. Right click the My computer icon (Desktop), open Manage/Services and
Applications/Services.
2. In the right pane scroll down to Remote Accces Auto Connection Manager
and double click it.
3. Use the Startup type drop box and choose Disabled.
