Dial up pops up on desktop at start up

Hi ! I am having some trouble with my computer and was wondering if anyone
can help. Once I get the computer on and to the desktop a few seconds later
the Dial up connect box pops up. Basically booting up with my Logitech quick
cam, printer, and other icons on the bottom right corner of my screen. I have
Windows XP (Home Edition? if there is such a thing called home edition?) I
would like to stop that from happening. It is so annoying when I am in the
process of connecting to the internet and the box pops up and is asking me to
connect. And can anyone give me some advice on making my computer run a
little faster, and start up alittle quicker. Thanks for the help.

Hi Stefanie

My guess is you probably have your dial up setup to ask you straight away
would you like to connect......click on start and then click on all
connections. right click on your dial up and click on properties and see how
your dial up is set up. If its setup correctly you will have to ask someone
that probably knows a hell of a lot more than me.

If you dont want programs to boot up at start up (which a lot of people
prefer as start up is a lot quicker then) you need to locate you start up
file and see what programs are in there, you can also check by clicking on
start, then run and type in misconfig

once there click on the start up tab, and take a look at all the programs
that start up when your computer boots up. If you dont know what they are its
probably best to leave them but in the path of them they will have the name
of the program such as quicktime and so on. just uncheck the ticks so that
that particular program does not start up when your computer boots up.
Its probably better to open these programs when you want to use them instead
of them all loading at start up.

As for how fast your computer is that is dependent on your ram, but you can
always clean your computer and remove programs you dont need or use or defrag
your computer to give it more space.

good luck

yes there is a home edition the opposite of windows xp professional.to speed
up computer:1.theres software on the net to speed up pc.most free !! it
contans spyware !! that messes up ur pc and slows it way down.don't use it.
2.firewalls don't slow down ur pc.don't be afraid to use them.(only one at a
time) 3.click tools (up in browser) then internet options, then
settings, theres a slider that controls size of temp folder move it way over
to the right from like 90 mb to 8000 mb and .empty temp folder often.
