Dial-up password

Tony

I have just installed a new PC for my daughter running XP Pro with SP2.
It arrived with a default logon password which we changed.
Now whenever she dials her ISP the new windows logon password appears in the
dial-up password box and
she has to change it (we know it is the wrong password because of the length).
We have checked the save password box but that makes no difference.
I use broadband and have no need for an internet password.
Any help gratefully received.

Tony,

The number of asterisks in the password box is not indicative of the length
of the password. This was true for me with my old dial-up ISP, there were 13
asterisks masking a 7 letter password. Can she connect using the settings as
they are? There is usually an option to change the password

Colin.

Don't try counting the asterisks in the password field. MS intentionally
shows different amounts to make it difficult for outside people to guess
them. Does it work if you just leave it alone and click connect?

Got it and many thanks - last time I used Dial-up I was using Win98 and I guess
this is one of the changes that
occurred in WinXP. Anyway fixed with my daughter's thanks also.
