Broadband vs. dial-up with Outlook Express

OS = XP (SP2) - upon installing broadband, I deleted the dial-up network
connection. Had absolutely no problem with connecting to and surfing the
Internet. But, when using Outlook Express, could only send but not receive.
Generic error message simply said the mail server could not be reached.
Checked settings in OE 'accounts, servers' and discovered password blank and
greyed out. Could only type in password AFTER checking 'remember password'.
But upon leaving 'servers' and returning there, password box blank though
'remember password' still checked. Re-installed dial-up connection, then set
'never dial a connection'. Then broadband would send but dial-up would
connect to receive. Finally, changed settings to 'never dial a connection'
and broadband worked both sending and receiving. However, in 'accounts,
servers' , password is greyed out. Before broadband, was always prompted for
password whenever OE was first loaded, but never as long as it remained
active.

I've had similar problems with OE, and solved them by
creating a new OE profile. If this does not help then I
recommend you repost your question where it really
belongs: In an OE newsgroup.

I've looked in vain for an OE newsgroup. Gimme a hint, please!
