Dial Up icon

Jenny

I'm trying to get a dial up icon on the desktop without dialing
the 800 number of MS that is built in. I already have the
local access number. I just want a shortcut icon for dialup
access to this ISP.

I tried network connections, make a new connection, but
like I say, it wants to dial an 800 number to find all of the
ISPs (that it wants to show me).

Thanks

Jenny,
When you get to the Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard, where you
have three choices (I want to sign up... I want to transfer...) choose I
want to transfer and follow those steps. Else, you could right-click a
dial-up icon in Network Connections and click on Properties...

And finally to get on the desk top, open the necessary dialogs
or windows to display the icon for that connection, right click it,
select create short cut or send to desktop. The short cut is created
inside the same window, but you can drag it onto the desktop.

As a last step, it still wants to dial up an 800 number for ISP. When I
cancel that, I lose all the progress. I don't have a method for dialing my
ISP.

On the first screen select Dial-up to a Private Network; this will do it.
After you have finished, right-click the icon and click Properties; make
sure everything is OK. When finished, right-click the icon again and click
Create Shortcut.
