Dial Up Connection

I recently upgraded to XP. I set up my internet connection using the wizard
and everything was fine for 2 weeks.
I was working as normal yesterday, having changed no settings and added no
programs. When I tried to connect by clicking the Explorer icon I got no
dial up connection and the message 'no connection to the internet is
currently available.' I clicked on my Outlook Express icon and the dial up
connection appeared. Once connected via OE I could then access IE with no
problem. The same happened today so I re set my IE connection with the
Wizard. It has now put an extra icon on my desktop showing the name of my
server. I can connect through this but I get a different type of dial up
connection, named 'connect dial up connection'. If I click on the help
buttonon this, what then appears is the normal dial up connection. When
connected wheras before my homepage opened automatically now I get nothing.
I have to click on the IE icon to get my homepage up and although I can
access the internet I keep getting the pop up message saying 'no connection'
(as above) even though I'm connected.
Very strange. Any ideas please ?

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2002 and using updated virus definitions) show? Also,
remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from www.security.kolla.de
and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure to update these programs
before running them. It is best to run antivirus and spyware removal
tools in Safe Mode.

Every case for which I've been called out on lately where the problem
was Internet connectivity was due to virus and/or spyware infection.
The CoolWebSearch malware is particularly nasty. After you're sure your
computer is completely clean, if the problem still persists then post
back with details about your Internet connection (ISP name, since we
know you use dial-up) and what you've already done to troubleshoot.

I have exactly the same problem.I have followed your
advise and run Norton Anti-virus,Spybot and Adware (All
updated) in safe mode and restarted the computer after
having fixed any problems found. IE explorer still will
not pull up the DUN, I have to do it from the desktop or
alternatively the DUN box is opened when open Outlook
Express. Name of my ISP is Intergate.ca.Also when I close
IExplorer the auto disconnect no longer appears
I hope you can help
Many thanks

Having IE dial or open up your Internet is simply an option within the
program. Just turn it on...in the connections tab.

Have a nice week...
