Dial up connection

I finished doing a repair reinstall of WinXp on my
daughter's computer to fix a non-working system restore
problem. The reinstall fixed that but I was then unable
to establish an internet connection - the dial up modem
option was greyed out in the network connection wizard. I
followed the suggestions in KB320558 which involved
making some registry changes, but neither method 1 nor
method 2 fixed the problem. Any suggestions?

Try going in the device manager and uninstalling and reinstalling the modem
driver.
