Dial-up connection reporting errors

Quite often, while I am connected to the Internet via a dial-up connection
and check the connection's status, I receive a number of "errors" in the
"Received" column of the "Activity" area in the status dialog box. What is
with these "errors", and is there anything I can do about them?

It could be a number of things - so no single answer is possible.

Probably, you should start by running one of the on-line diagnostic
& testing utilities. This will check your throughput and effective
bandwidth. Also, you should check your MTU (Maximum
Transmission Unit) [Biggest size packet of Data].

Also, a modem driver update may be in order, check your vendors
web site for an updated driver package.

For testing modem based download speeds, try:

For testing your TCP/IP settings, use:

It could also be caused by noise on your phone line...

Good Point - Call your local Telco and request a line noise
check - Should be free. They are required to maintain a
certain level of quality (db). Sometimes, they'll switch your
line to a different copper pair that may give better performance.
As a former employee of a "Big" Switching equipment maker,
I shouldn't have omitted that as a possibility.
Thanks T.C.
