The "Dial-up Connection" box pops up automatically. This happens at startup
and when I return from being on standby. How do I get this to stop?

Try the following and see if it helps:
Open IE>Tools>Internet Options>Connections
Check the "Dial whenever a connection is not present"
Apply > OK out.
Note: If you are leaving IE connection running for a long time, some
Internet Service Providers (ISP's) will drop connections automatically if
there is no activity on the account.

Start>Settings> Control Panel>Network and Dial-up Connections>Local Area
Connection>Properties>Configure>Power Management tab>uncheck "Allow the
computer to turn off this device to save power."
and....
My dialup settings keep changing from 'never dial' to 'always dial' or
'always dial' to 'never dial

Hi Jan,
I tried your suggestions and none of them worked. I have a feeling that
this pop up is started by something in the startup program. It is the last
thing that comes onto the screen when I boot up my computer and is on the
screen when I return from standby. If I click on the connect button of this
pop up a trojan horse virus is placed on my system. If I cancel the pop up I
can use my Explorer as usual.

information so that we might all review it. Or is it a personal experience?
I have not heard of this removal tool doing such a thing before from any of
the experts, here or elsewhere, that I have seen or heard recommend it for
removing the CoolWeb hijacker variants.
