Dial Up Connection openning on its own

S

Stephen

Recently, when ever my computer is turned on, the Dial Up
Connection pop up keeps opening. If I am not wanting to go
onto the internet I select Cancel, but it just keeps
openning about 15 - 20 times before finally disappearing.
Then, after about 20 minutes it starts opening again. Can
anyone help me with this problem. I have been scanning for
Virus using my up to date Norton software but it shows all
is OK.

Thanks

Stephen

If the OS is Windows XP, try this:

1. Right click the My computer icon (Desktop), open Manage/Services and
Applications/Services.
2. In the right pane scroll down to Remote Accces Auto Connection Manager
and double click it.
3. Use the Startup type drop box and choose Disabled.

Ramesh,

Thanks for your reply. I am currently using windows 98,
not XP. Do you have any suggestions for this?

Also, I am thinking the problem started when I recently
upgraded to IEv6, could this be cause? I noticed on some
of the other posts people are suggesting IEv6 is not so
good with the older 98 operating system.

Thanks

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

A program or spyware might initializing the dial-up connection.

SpyBot S&D searches your harddisk for Spyware and Adware
http://security.kolla.de/

and

Adaware (similar)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
* Perform a Webupdate to have the latest definitions installed *

Set the dial-up options in Internet Explorer to "Never Dial a Connection".
