Dial up and XP

P

Phil

My daughter and friend just switched their XP laptop to dialup service.
Previously, in school, they had a network. The following problems have
cropped up. Any suggestions?

1. After she closes an internet session, if she tries to log on
again, she gets a message saying "WN Fatal Error Occurred" and the computer
stars shutting down. They can get back on the internet after a reboot.

2. She also gets a message saying "LSA Shell has encountered a
problem" or words to that effect.

3. She also gets a message speaking about shut down and NT
Authority.

Any help would be appreciated.

Visit the following website and use the procedure to
remove the "Sasser Worm" from your computer:

If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown
or reboot, quickly go to:

Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
This opens the Command Prompt window.

Then type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

She also is infected with many forms of spywear, trojans and virus's.

She needs to clean her system, install a competent firewall and a good
antivirus program. She has to keep the antivirus program faithfully updated.

She also has to stay off the P2P file sharing networks as they will always
slip in a virus or two with the music downloads.

Use Ad-Aware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ and Spybot
Search & Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html. Use an
antivirus program of your choice. There are many good ones available.
