Having problems with my DHCP server, not connecting with my ip address.
Does
anyone know how to fix this? I'm running windows xp home.
The problem could be your DHCP server.
1- start off by confirming that your DHCP server is working properly by
attaching another pc.
2- if that is ok, ensure that your nic card is set to obtain all settings
automatically
3- if that is ok and still no connection, then set your ip manually and
see if you can connect (ping) the dhcp server... if there is no reply then
the problem is either your nic or your cable
4- so..if none of the above worked, try using another cable
5- if you're sure cable is ok and still have problems, try updating your
nic card drivers... but first TOTALLY wipe out your old drivers.... to do
this go to device manager, open properties for nic card and take note of
the driver files, then uninstall it from device manager and proceed to
manually remove the drivers from your windows\system32\drivers
directory... then re-install
6- if all the above still fail... then it's probably your nic card that
needs replacing... or your tcp/ip stack that's screwed up... in which
case, try to get hold of a bootable os... like some linux distro.. and
check the nic there
