XP PRO incoming vpn cannot access lan behind XP PC

Steve Mowbray

Hi

I have enabled incoming VPN (PPTP) connections to my XP pro PC and checked
the allow callers to see my local area network but I cant see beyond the
PPTP server IP.

First problem was the Assign TCP/IP addresses automatically using DHCP did
not pass through to my router for home LAN IP address ranges so I am using
Specifiy TCP/IP addressess outside of my DHCP server addresses!

Any ideas how I can get the XP PC to route properly onto the home LAN behind
the PPTP server PC?

Thanks
Steve.

XP is not designed to be a router. However, you my try to enable IP routing.

routing issues on vpnResolutions: 1) if you have two NICs in the VPN server,
you may need to enable IP Routing. To do this, go to the RRAS>the Properties
of the server>IP, ...

Ok heres what I have tried so far:

on XP pro server PC:
1. network connections->incoming connections
properties->Networking->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Properties->"Allow
callers to access my local area network" CHECKED

2.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\IPEnableRouter
= 1

on XP client PC
1. network connections->pptp client properties->networking->Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP)->Properties->Advanced->general->"use default gateway on
remote network" UNCHECKED

2. route add 192.168.95.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.2

Still cant see behind the PPTP server!!!
